SafeGPT's customers are municipalities, law firms, and organizations across the Dutch care sector. Recordings from these customers are highly sensitive and considered special-category data under GDPR. Before any data is processed, a data protection officer is required to approve where it goes. SafeGPT built its platform to make this approval straightforward.

Transcription was one of the hardest parts to source on SafeGPT's terms, as all available engines ran on infrastructure owned outside the EU. Buyers defaulted to the provider their IT departments were already familiar with. That's the shape of the market: most speech-to-text runs on compute rented from a large cloud provider. An EU region determines where the audio physically sits, but does not determine who owns the hardware or which government can compel access to it.

Owning the hardware answers the data privacy questions

SafeGPT ran its review of Reson8 in the same way its customers' privacy officers would, asking who owns the machines, what is retained, and who else is in the chain.

Reson8 has no cloud provider underneath it. Inference runs on NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs that Reson8 owns and manages, co-located in a data center in the Netherlands. The company has no parent outside the EU that could be compelled to hand over data, retains no audio, and does not train on customer data. The ISO 27001:2022 certification made Reson8 a clear choice from a security perspective, and meant SafeGPT could rely on an independent audit instead of running its own.
